A school that's nearer to my place.
Haven been to the school yet.

Frankly, I was all set and settled to kick start my life as a full-fledged teacher in Shuqun.
Being posted to Juying was an unexpected twist to my plans.
I got to admit that I was pretty apprehsive over it initally.
I struggled for the past 2 days for God leadership and assurance to reign.
I struggled for the past 2 days to surrender to Him my plans and desires.
The process of surrendering was unexpectedly painful and humbling.

But God spoke.
God assured; gave me a glimps of His plans.

¹¹ For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

She was someone that saw me through my first years in NIE, when I still so young and green.

I offically ORD-ed today from my practicum.
YES!
I'm a full-fledged teacher now!
I thank God for the experiences.
It was fruitful and fulfilling.
It had been one where I had space to discover and understand more about myself,
one where I deepen my convictions and values too.
Minus the painful hassle of getting to school in time for row call, everything was all good.

Sisters, we're living in an age when many of us fall into using man for our own self-satisfactions (emotional security, social security, material comfort, etc.)
Yes ! Don't be surprise.
The fact is we do;
subtlety or in an outright manner.
We can even get more predatory and aggressive than our male counterparts.

Consider these...

Have you ever had an interest in someone, who obviously thinks the world of you the way he showers you with praises, however, you’ll only choose to go out with him if he offers to buy you lunch or when you need an ego boost? (It is an instance here where you’re taking advantage of his affection with no intentions of ever reciprocating his feelings.)

Do you loss interest in guys quickly when they act as if they’re interested in you and goes out their way to be around you? YET, if they play had to get, you can’t get them out of your mind and attempts to reel them your direction of flirting. You thrive on the challenge of conquering guy’s resolve. (In is a case here where you’re not as interested in a genuine, intimate relationship. You’re into boosting your own ego by turning a guy’s head and luring him in with your 'power'.)

Do you consider what guys you’ll be seeing every morning and dresses up to catch their eye so that they’ll flirt with you? (You’re abusing your power by using your appeal and charm to manipulate men into giving you the attention you want.)

Many are desperate and looking for affirmation that they are desirable and often control others in pursuit of that affirmation.

Do you see a pattern in your life of aggressively pursuing guys, manipulating and using them to gratify your selfish desires?
If you do, there might be more to it than meetings the eyes.

What’s behind our pursuit of power? It may simply be a matter of pride-you may want others to think you are a strong and attractive woman and that you have the upper hand in your romantic relationship and the ability to make heads turn and feet sweep off by your charm because you fear being perceived as weak and ‘not attractive enough’. It could be a case where you're looking for needed to feel indispensable and wanted to feel secure. It could be emotional negligence from a male that cause you to desire power over men out of anger, contempt, or a desire to punish the ones who have inflicted emotional pain in you.

In whatever case, ask God to reveal and to help you explore understanding of yourself and how to relate with the opposite gender.

I had my final observation.
It went well.

1) My laptop slipped from my laptop bag and almost slammed flat on the floor from the table. My heart skipped a beat at that point in time!
The poor psycho motor skill me managed to hop it in time.
Thank God!
2) I needed to demonstrate the drawing of parallel lines using the visualiser but the projector in my class was sent for repair. :(
I arranged for the technician to set-up a potable projector in my class. BUT HE WAS LATE! Thank God my supervisor WAS LATE TOO! He managed to set-up just in time before my supervisor set her foot in the class.

3) I chanced upon a hand-out on Gim Koon's table10 mins before my lesson. It offered me an alternative way to scaffold my tuning-in activity; more effective than what I sent out to do.

They went not bad except my Science observation, where my kids went cranky and overly excited over the candies and cheese that they will be eating in their experiment.

I was quite down cast after that observation, but I thank God that my NIE sup was gracious and kind. She was positive and the remarks and feedback on my APT form were not bad at all too!

I haven't been resting well for the past 3 days eh.
I was awaken by my huger for the past few nights!
I woke up around 1 am and I couldn't fall asleep;
Wide awake from 1 am till now.

But I really want to give thanks to God for sustaining me!

HC showed improvements!
6C4, my 'monster' class was surprising cooperative today!
Thank God for the breakthrough!

My visualiser revived!
But the speakers doesn't seem to be working though. I shall try it again tomorrow.
I give praise to the Lord.

Today, the relief teacher that took the class before my lesson used a permanent marker on the board. Can tell that she was kinda stress when she realised that she was using permanent marker in many of her classes.

Lesson learnt: Do not take for granted that your markers are meant for writing on the board!

Today, I also finally tried the fraction strips manipulative!
Check out what Ms dinner and I were doing eh!

The magnetic strips were stucked together and it took the 2 of us around 20 mins to arrange the strips back into the box! Tedious eh!
But our kids were engaged!
They kept asking us where we get these strips from!
Our effort is worthwhile eh (:

Week 4 Day 1

heh.. didn't sleep well.

Hit my sack at 3am, my mind was so so awake.

I heard my alarm ringing even before I could fall asleep.

Carried with me 3 big bags of books, containers, lappie, files and teachers' guide.

Shared cab with Diana to school.

God sent a cab at once upon me calling upon His name.

He is good eh! ;)

Today my CT is on MC.

I pray that her baby and her are fine.

Priya caught flu. Alvin caught hand-foot-mouth.

I pray that they will get well soon !

::Highlights of the day::

Kids love to ask funny questions eh.

They are more 'mature' and complex than you think they are.

Juilana asked me this question before the class today.

'Ms Tan, what time do you have to wake up?

I bet you have to wake up ultra early because you need time to put on your make-up.'

I was caught off guard by what this Primary 4 girl asked. heh..

Heng Yong was quite funny. He suggested that I should have told her that I put my makeup on to sleep the night before; I don't have to wake up as early as she thought. HAHAHA.

Adriel asked me how many boyfriends do I have during my Math class when I taught them the concept- more than and less than. 'Ms Tan, do you have more than 2 boyfriends? I think you have many many boyfriends.'

Talked to a boy in my class today.

He failed to complete his work again.

I got him to write me a reflection.

He came to me crying, telling me that he is very stress; had difficulty coping the workload.

Swimming class, after school care centre remediation, camps, homework, plus the assessment books from home...

:) hmmm..

God, use me to make a difference in his situation.

Give me the wisdom and greater compassion to help this boy.

I did relief for 1 period too.

Relief-ed to this class with quite a handful of kids having learning difficulties and special physical needs.

My heart went out to them.

I'm trying to make sense of my experience.

On one hand, I give thanks to God for I'm healthy and well. I give thanks to God for watching over the people in my lives too.

On the other hand, I'm wondering what's God's will in these kids' lives and how I can play my part as God's channel of love and care.

My day ended off sweetly with an appreciation gift from Mark and His mother, Christina.

They brought me a big Kueh Lapis cake!

National swimmer eh. Just won the 2 bronze medals for the school.

Going to take part in ASEAN cup swimming events and Zone skipping competition soon.

I must be faithful to help him catch up with what he missed out during class when he is out for competition.

THE DIFFERENCE

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day; I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task. "Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He answered, "You didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me, He said, "But you didn't seek."

The Refiners'sTouch

Malachi 3:3
"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

There was a group of women in a Bible study on the book of Malachi. As they were studying chapter three they came across verse three which says,
"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."
This verse puzzled the women and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible study. That week the woman called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest in silver beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that, in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest so as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot - then she thought again about the verse, that He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. For if the silver was left even a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's the easy part -- when I see my image reflected in it."

If today we're feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on us and will keep His hand on us and watch over us until He sees His image in us.

I attended this year's Christmas service with Jie & Kor.

Words can't describe how blessed I'm to be in the House of God with them.

I almost blew my mind off!

I was overjoyed,

REALLY OVERJOYED!

John 3:16 was the message shared.

This very verse was shared to me when I was 5.

Back then my 6 year-old brother was a believer, I wasn't.

'Mei Mei, if you believe in Jesus, you will not perish but have eternal life.'

It didn't make sense to me and I went on playing with my doll.

I know what my brother meant now.

Jesus came.

He paid the price of my sins at the Calvary.

He died so that I can live.

Even as the worship songs played,

I kept ranting and ranting these words in my heart:

I teared badly.

Because He is worthy.

' Just like to share a testimony of God

My 7 year-old brother lost his Student identity cum Ez-link Card some time ago. As a result , he got a very heavy scolding from my mum. She was so furious about it. He prayed to God to help him to find his card .

God answered him a few days after he lost his card.

His classmate told him ," Hey i saw your card in my house's bathroom.I saw your name !" To his realisation, his classmate's sister found it and brought it home.

Wow, i am so amazed by what God has done in his circumstance.

My brother acknowledged that it is God who answered his prayer happily.

Overheard by my mum , she was also very surprised and started to question if Samuel did pray to God.

This morning he wrote a love letter to God to ask God to bless him in his coming primary one exam blah...... '

I'm lifted up by little brother-in-Christ. Its really amazing how real God is in his situation! (:

One thing that I've really captured from this testimony is His child-like faith. He committed his fears, needs, worries, hopes, day, joy and fun to His Father; practically his entire world to Him! Upon handling kids in school, I learnt that to be a child's confident, he or she must have trusted that you truly cares for him or her and that you're dependable. Likewise in Samuel's case, his desire to tell God even the smallest things like taking a toilet break during his trip to the zoo, testifies how tangibly he is experiencing His caring and dependable heavenly Father, living each day by faith and not by sight of Him.

Dad, You're AWESOME! Even as I walk with You each day of my life, help me be like Samuel; desire more of You and depend on You. Daddy, teach me, help me and guide me to lead a life that is more of You and less of me .

YES! We were at the JUMP concert. (:

Shu Yan, Shi Jie, Sam, Casarie and I gathered at the heart of our cosmopolitan city- Fort Canning Park with a sole purpose: to praise and worship God.
We had the privilege to have Carol, Hazel and Serina adding colours to our evening too.

It was an awesome experience singing, dancing and jumping around joyfully proclaiming how good God is under the stars. The sight of seeing a sea of believers united in one spirit honoring our beautiful Savior with songs of worship and praise was magnificent and heart-moving.
Each tongue lifted is a life transformed.
Each pair of hands lifted is a soul set free.

She is our gift & superstar. She is on every one's (My dad, my mum, my brother, my brother-in-law, my sister & I ) hand phone screen; This gift brought joy to my household. Seeing my dad and mum cuddling & spending time their granddaughter never fail to paint me a heart-warming picture of how I could have been taken care by my parents when I was a baby. So much patience & tender loving care showered. Yay!

She is my successor; She is loud.. No. She is louder. Her grandma calls her <<小喇叭>> (little trumpet) Yeah! We need ear pucks when she cries. My big-size brother will tremble in fear whenever she cries while he carries her.

She helps us learn & grow. Playing with her is fun. Looking after her is not that fun. I believe my brother-in-law and sister will totally agree with me! Yeah! I've seen how my sister grow in her faithfulness & independence over these few months. I believe this parenting journey is one that my brother-in-law and sister grow too.

Jie, I know it hasn't been easy taking care of this little one. It involves so much; adapting and adjusting of lifestyle, sacrificing & giving up personal rights... But I know Joe and you are trying your very best & not compromising on giving the best to Megan. I thank God that Joe is there for you, supporting & encouraging you in this. Jie, continue to be faithful with this gift that God has showered upon you and rely on God's grace yah?
